Acer on Wednesday announced its newest notebook offerings, the most noteworthy of which are the Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810T-8679, an 11.6-inch ultraportable, and the Acer Aspire AS5738PG, the company's first notebook with a multitouch screen.
The Aspire AS5738PG takes advantage of the multitouch support of Windows 7, with a 15.6-inch HD CineCrystal multitouch display. The screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio, with a 1,366-by-768 resolu-tion. Multitouch capability means customers can now use two fingers to zoom in and out on We sites, create handwritten notes, launch entertainment apps, and edit photos and videos.
There is also a multi-gesture touchpad that will allow customers to use gestures to navigate, such as pinching, flicking and swirling. To avoid accidental cursor movement, the touchpad has a lock that can be set to disable the multi-gesture features.
The Aspire AS5738PG-6306 (the first configuration in the series available in the U.S.) comes with a 2.2-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 processor, 4-GB DD2 memory, a 320-GB hard drive, ATI Radeon HD4570 discrete graphics card, and a DVD burner. Other features include a built-in Web cam and a memory card reader.
Wireless capability comes in the form of 802.11a/b/g/draft n Wi-Fi. For connectivity, the Aspire AS5738PG-6306 features four USB 2.0 ports and an HDMI port. There is a standard 6-cell battery standard with the laptop. The Aspire AS5738PG-6306 costs $799.99 list.
