On Thursday, Microsoft said it will launch a Windows 7 compatibility Web site in a bid to help consumers determine which of their products will be supported under the new operating system.
Microsoft said it will unveil the Windows Compatibility Center Web site "for the launch of Windows 7."
The site will house a database of exactly which products from which manufacturers will be compatible with Windows 7. The site is currently live, but lacked the database as of press time. A Microsoft spokesman did not return a request for comment by press time.
"We will have more on this as we get closer to launch, but thousands of products are being populated into the Compatibility Center right now based on confirmed statements of support from partners," Mark Relph, a senior director with Microsoft's Windows Product Strategy Group and leader of its Windows Ecosystem team. "If you are a customer, you can be confident that we are working with our partners to ensure you find the compatibility status, downloads, and helpful resources for the products you use every day."
Microsoft said that in the Windows Ecosystem Readiness Program alone we now have over 50,000 developers from 17,000 companies using our technical resources to ready their products for Windows 7. Microsoft unveiled the Windows 7 logo program earlier this week.
