AFTER YEARS of harassing Microsoft in advertising campaigns claiming that OS X was invulnerable to computer viruses, Apple has finally admitted that Snow Leper can be humbled by malware.
For years Mac fanboys have been telling the world plus dog how the mighty word of Steve Jobs protects them from all viruses.
Indeed it is an article of Apple fanboy faith that PC virus writers are too fearful of the wrath of Jobs to even think of writing a virus for Mac OS X.
When Mac viruses do appear the fanboys insist that it is not a virus but 'malware' or a 'worm' so that does not count. Malware is simply a generic term meaning 'malicious software', and worms are more or less the same thing as viruses.
Well, now it seems that Apple has backtracked on its faith-based IT security regime and provided Snow Leper users with free anti-virus software. Of course this must still be to protect against 'malware' or even 'worms' because Apple's latest adverts slam Microsoft's products for suffering from viruses.
People who pay for the Leopard service pack can get the feature working with a download via Safari. In a screenshot it is shown detecting a version of the RSPlug Trojan horse, which can't affect a Mac, apparently.
Apple is also in a bit of hot water in Blighty at the moment for charging its users more for its Snow Leopard service pack upgrade.
