Intel has officially announced its next generation Intel Atom platform that promises improved system performance and longer battery life. Earlier codenamed as Pine Trail, this is the new Atom platform that consists of Intel Atom N450 processor and Intel NM10 Express chipset. Built from 45nm fabrication process, the new Intel Atom N450 processor runs at the 1.66GHz clock speed.
Earlier this month, Intel Atom N450 packed Acer Aspire One 532 was spotted online. The new Atom N450 processor is codenamed Pineview and will have thermal design power rating of 5.5watts. Thus, the power consumption has been brought down by 20 percent. Competing Nvidia ION gave a tough fight to Atom platform and the new Pine Trail is expect to take the lead.
Intel Atom N450 would be capable of running latest Windows 7 and also support 720p graphics. Atom Pineview processors have integrated graphics and memory controller clubbed with the CPU on the same die. With 60 percent smaller size, this CPU offers 512kb cache and support for 667MHz DDR2 Memory. Along with the Intel NM10 Express chipset, the total power consumption comes to about 7 watts.
In coming weeks, we can expect to see Intel Atom N450 packed netbooks and nettops from several PC-makers like Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, Dell, Toshiba, MSI, Fujitsu, and Samsung.
