MySQL is an SQL based relational database management system (DBMS) that runs under a broad array of operating systems. MySQL is frequently used by PHP and Perl scripts and operates under all operating systems. Only the installation instructions are Windows specific. To interface with the MySQL server, you can use a client program or you can write a program or script with one of the popular programming languages (such as Perl) using an API (Application Programming Interface) to interface with the MySQL server.

Disadvantages
- No direct ADO support
- Not as many features as above in Default configuration.
